Welcome to le site for French Studies in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature at Florida Atlantic. Our program’s mission is to promote the study of French language, literature, linguistics, and culture through interdisciplinary pedagogical approaches. Our courses therefore stress the importance of French as a vibrant language with a strong global presence, as they examine the rich variety and ongoing international influence of French and Francophone traditions and civilizations from the Middle Ages to the present, from Europe to the Caribbean (and beyond).

Our undergraduate options include the BA in Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature with a concentration in French, and the French minor. These undergraduate options are designed to allow à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã to readily combine the study of French with the study of other disciplines, including (but not limited to) history, sociology, political science, business, philosophy, the arts, and film.

Graduate options involving French Studies include the MA in French, the MAT in French, the MA in Comparative Literature, and the PhD in Comparative Studies. The first two graduate options provide in-depth French training (the MA in literary analysis and critical theory; the MAT in the pedagogy of teaching French as a second language). The second two options allow graduate à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã to combine advanced study of French literature, theory, and culture with other intellectual areas, such as another body of literature (English, Caribbean, Italian, Spanish), or another discipline (history, political science, philosophy, anthropology, art history).

We invite interested à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã to explore the possibilities for both undergraduate and graduate studies, and to contact us for further information. If you wish to study the language, literature, and culture of France and francophone regions of the world, we have a course that is right for you.
